Estimate Reading Time: 3 minutes
I've decided to start blogging about the weeks when I struggle with a reading slump. This is primarily for me to keep a record of when I encounter a slump and when I overcome it.
It's intriguing because I genuinely yearn to pick up a new book and escape reality, but I find myself lacking the mental capacity to do so. Instead, I've been focusing more on catching up on my TV shows and engaging in activities that require less mental effort. Dealing with corporate formalities and contemplating my career path has become exhausting. I've even been interviewing for another internal position in hopes of boosting morale and finding motivation, but alas, career aspirations do not necessarily equate to happiness. I must continually remind myself that I work to live, not live to work.
How does this affect my love for reading? Work has been draining, leaving me feeling more despondent about pursuing personal interests versus dedicating myself solely to work and sleeping at odd hours. While I support the hybrid work model, three days in the office feels excessive in this day and age. The time spent preparing for and commuting to work could be better utilized on activities I enjoy. Despite my efforts to read during my commute on the train and ferry, fatigue often overwhelms me, and I end up prioritizing a nap before reaching the office.
This week, I am committing to reading at least one book with the assistance of an audiobook on my Kindle. Reconnecting with intuitive reading will undoubtedly help me regain my rhythm. A personal reminder to myself: if work begins to overshadow everything else, it's essential to take a step back and reassess whether it's truly worth it.
