My Thoughts:
"People couldn't forget, not the really awful things. They carried the past with them..."
I have truly fell in love with this series despite my hesitation initially because of the book cover. The book cover does not do the novel justice by representing the mystery and thrill but also about the LGBTQIA+ messaging. The cover is supposed to show a club called "Pretty Pretty" in the novel but is a very minor piece of the bigger puzzle. I would have like a more mysterious cover of a detective or something along those lines as the tagline is "A Hazard and Somerset Mystery".
"The past was like poison, and it built up in you like poison, like lead in your tap..."
Anyways, the book is around two protagonists Hazard & Somers, who are both detectives in a small town called Waredurah. Before the gentrification and transforming into a college town, it used to be like every other small town, homophobic/close-minded. Both Hazard & Somers a major past that involves them in high school but here we are years later ended up as partners that have to look out one another. Overall, the book does a really good job of building the characters based on how the past has impacted who they are today.
- Hazard: Used to be a frail boy who got bullied by many for being gay. However, now he is buff and a complete opposite of who he used to be.
Lastly, the pacing of the book was very well written where it made me want to keep reading the book. Any time I wanted to pause for the day, BAMMM, some drama that kept me reading.
"Stop staring at me Hazard grumbled, and then he went back to typing"
Conclusion & Recommendation:
I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves enemies to lover M|M romance story. Even more than that I really enjoyed the part that it involved a whole mystery they were attempting to solve. This is definitely an author I'll be following to read future books on.
